The Long Center Welcomes Back Texas Favorite Bob Schneider with Tosca String Quartet
Texas’ own BOB SCHNEIDER reunites with the famous Tosca String Quartet at the Long Center on July 15th at 8:00pm. Single tickets are on sale now and start at $27.
This artist, with his many-varied musical background, presents the culmination of his latest project, King Kong Suite, in three volumes. More than your average album, this release is a collection of EPs that spans several moods—some not unfamiliar to those who have followed Schneider through Joe Rockhead, Ugly Americans, and Lonelyland—with each volume a distinct collection of sounds. Schneider’s evolution as more than just a melodic genius is fast approaching, and will be exhibited in full at this performance.
Bob Schneider has been the singer and main songwriter on nearly 30 studio albums, and he has been named Musician of the Year six times at the Austin Music Awards. Considering the renowned strength of the music scene in Austin, that’s saying something. His artistry coupled with his movie-star looks and boyish charm make it a wonder he’s not a household name around the rest of the country the way he is in Austin.
The Tosca String Quartet is Leigh Mahoney – violin, Tracy Seeger – violin, Ames Asbell – viola, and Sara Nelson – cello. They began in 1996 as members of the Tosca Tango Orchestra, a seven-piece ensemble that captivated the Austin, Texas, live music scene in the late 1990’s. The tango nuevoorchestra performed new compositions by composer and bandleader Glover Gill (along with a few Astor Piazzolla covers) and released six albums. In 2000, the group gained an international following with soundtrack and on-screen work in Richard Linklater’s arthouse hit film Waking Life, and an appearance by invitation at the 5th World Tango Summit in Argentina. The quartet continues to perform with Gill and his group, Glovertango, whenever possible.
